In his book, Leadership For Future Of Work, speaker and trainer on leadership, Dickson Tang outlines the bridges that need to be crossed when it comes to tackling the buzzword issues of the day.fow

With automation invading workplaces and the potential loss of jobs, the future is at best uncertain. A McKinsey Research says that by 2055 almost half of the world’s work activities will be automated.

Even as governments talk up the need to fill new kinds of jobs, the fact is people will still be out of work.

The future of work requires a new leadership, using creativity as a key differentiator between humans and robots in the workplace.

Dickson says future leaders need to learn and develop their “3i”s: Individual mindset; infrastructure; and ideas.

Individual Mindset

• To think differently e.g. embrace a startup mindset in the workplace.

• To embrace uncertainty e.g. learn how to deal with volatility uncertainty complexity and ambiguity (VUCA).

• To stay open to the new 3Cs  — collaboration, connectivity, and curiosity.

Infrastructure

• To develop ability infrastructure (e.g. staffing, skill development) with creativity.

• To develop culture infrastructure (e.g. shared values, style of work) relevant to the digital economy.

• To build extended infrastructure, embracing internal and external teams and open innovation.
